PEMRA issues show cause to private TV channel over controversial interview

The TV channel recently aired a show featuring Khalilur Rehman Qamar as a panelist

The Pakistan Electronic Media Regulatory Authority (Pemra) has issued a show cause notice to a private TV channel over controversial segment in the show Ayesha Ehtesham Kay Sath.

The authority sent the notice on account of the language which it deemed as 'vulgar', used in the program. It is pertinent to mention that the notice was issued after Khalil ur Rehman Qamar and Marvi Sirmed indulged in a verbal spat during the show.

Qamar's use of crass comments against Sirmed ensued a debate on social media with many including certain public figures condeming him and the show. Since then the Executive Director of the channel and the host of the show in question have both apologised for what transpired in the segment.

Please accept my sincere apology on the incident which happened today on our screen. Being Head of NEO NEWS I am extremely sorry for that and strict action will be taken. We condemn the behaviour of Khalil Qamar," said Naseerullah Malik, the Executive Director of the channel in question.

The host of the show also uttered the same sentiments in a tweet posted hours after the show was aired. "What happened yesterday in my show was an extremely sorry state of affairs. I could not imagine things could turn out to be so rough and abusive," said host Ayesha Ehtesham.
