ISLAMABAD: Election Commission Pakistan’s (ECP) scrutiny committee on Tuesday refused to give details submitted by Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) donors to Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) petitioner Farrukh Habib and referred the matter to the commission.

The scrutiny committee held separate meetings to investigate the alleged foreign funding of the PML-N and the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP). Habib along with his lawyer appeared in the committee while Jahangir Jadun represented the PML-N and Shahbaz Khosa appeared on behalf of the PPP.

According to sources, the committee reviewed the documents of donors submitted by the two major opposition parties and later forwarded the issue, of handing over the documents to the petitioner, to the ECP. The scrutiny committee reconvened the PML-N and PPP on March 25.

Talking to media after the meeting, Habib censured the opposition parties of not having receipts of billions of rupees transferred to the accounts blaming them of not revealing sources of funding to the Scrutiny Committee.

He claimed that PML-N and PPP sought funding from prohibited sources which were not submitted to the ECP, according to the Supreme Court decision.
