Shahid Afridi pledges support for differently-abled athlete

The former captain responded to the plight of a Special Olympics gold medalist's mother

Renowned batsman and former cricket captain Shahid Afridi, recently shared a tweet showcasing the Pakistan's Special Olympics Tennis gold medalist, Sajda. The tweet included a video of the young star holding her medals accompanied by her mother who requested for Afridi to help them overcome a financial crisis.

She said, "I just want Shahid Afridi to kindly help my husband find a decent job and help me generate an income through working at home. I can stitch chadars, but we honestly just want to earn a respectable livelihood for our children."

In response to her plight, Afridi started off by addressing the young champion, "Pakistan keliye apki kaamiyabi fakhar ka baais hai. (Your success is a matter of pride for Pakistan)."



He then added, "Shahid Afridi Foundation sehet, taaleem or paani ke husool keliye kaam karti hai, (Although the Shahid Afridi foundation works for health, education and water) magar mera ye waada hai ke men khud zaati tor par apki madad do din men karunga (but I promise you that I will personally assist you within these two days)."

He posted the account March 1, 2020.

Afridi and his family also welcomed a baby girl in February and the internet was flooding with prayers. Afridi shared the news with his fans and followers on Twitter, saying, “The Almighty’s infinite blessings and mercy are upon me. Already having been granted four wonderful daughters, I have now been blessed with a fifth, Alhamdulillah.”
