Encroachment in markets

KARACHI: Encroachments in commercial markets of satellite towns are causing a huge mess. The encroachers occupy the area by establishing their stalls across the street which is creating inconvenience for the transporters and pedestrians. These stalls eventually keep on increasing to a point of congestion. This restricts the flow of people and traffic due to which it becomes extremely hard to commute.

Vendors and their stalls are hampering the smooth traffic flow and causing road accidents. It has become almost impossible to walk freely in the market because of encroachments on footpaths. Vendors must realise that their stalls are not only creating inconvenience for the transporters but also for themselves.

Encroachments in market places are increasing by the day. I request the authorities concerned to take the matter into notice. More shopping malls can be built so that all stalls can be moved to those buildings, as the stalls on the side of the roads are the major cause of increasing customers and blocking traffic.

Apart from the persisting traffic situation caused by encroachers, it is also important to note that there is a lot of waste that is produced by these encroachers. They throw trash on the street and no one is there to pick it up. After years of this, many places in Karachi are filled with trash, so much so that it has become hard to breathe due to the disgusting odour. These encroachers also steal electricity by using kundas from live electric wires. The government needs to find a way to somehow incorporate these people within the city system and relocate them to proper places where they can make a living, instead of resorting to illegal means to get basic necessities.
