SAN DIEGO, CA, US: This is with reference to the letter titled “The decline of Urdu in contemporary India”(July 21). The fact is that for many Indians, Urdu is associated with Muslims invaders. Hence, there seems to be a civilisational desire, to either kill it or to let it die. The adoption of English is purely for social and financial mobility. This doesn’t mean that English could ever replace people’s native tongue.
