Islamabad police arrest cooking oil looters

Recover hijacked delivery truck, car and arms used in highway robbery

ISLAMABAD: Lohi Bher police have arrested a gang of robbers who had stolen a truck loaded with cooking oil and ghee.

Given the trend of inflation in prices of kitchen and food items, a cooking oil robbery was a serious issue, Operations DIG Waqaruddin Syed took notice and ordered all zonal officers to crackdown against criminals including those involved in robberies and accelerate their efforts to curb the crime in the city.

Following the directions, SP (Rural) Malik Naeem Iqbal constituted special teams under supervision of DSP Rukhsar Mehdi including SHO Lohi Bher Sub-Inspector Shahid Zaman, ASI Naseeb Ullah along with other officials. The team successfully busted five members of of a so called inter-provincial gang involved in robberies.

The arrested suspects have been identified as Tufail, Aqib, Shafi, Umer and Hassan. Police team also recovered looted items including cooking oil, ghee, a transport truck, car and weapons along with ammunition from their possession.

During the preliminary investigation, they confessed their involvement in incidents of robberies in various areas twin cities.

A case has been registered in Lohi Bher police stations against the nabbed persons and further investigation is underway from them.

Meanwhile, Ramna police have busted a gang of street criminals wanted in cases of mobile phone and purse snatching.

Following directions from DIG Syed, Investigation SP Dr Syed Mustafa Tanveer constituted special team under supervision of CIA DSP Hakim Khan including ASI Jaffer Ali along with other officials which successfully arrested accused Ahmed Raza resident of Awan Colony Rawalpindi. Police team also recovered 10 cell phones, two laptop, and dagger from him.

During the preliminary investigation, they confessed their involvement in incidents of looting people in various areas of Islamabad and Rawalpindi.

Separate cases have been registered in Ramana  police stations against the nabbed person and further investigation is underway from them.

DIG Syed has appreciated this overall performance and directed all police officials to ensure effective policing measures in their respective areas.
