Chief Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry has constituted six benches following the return of the judges from summer break, for the hearing of important cases to be taken up by the Supreme Court next week.
The important cases include the Hajj corruption case, the International Security Assistance Force (Isaf) containers smuggling case, National Insurance Company Limited (NICL) land scam case, Bank of Punjab case, National Police Foundation case and election matters.
A six-member larger bench, headed by the chief justice, will resume the hearing of the Hajj corruption case on Monday.
The case was fixed for hearing before the chief justice last week, but was adjourned due to the absence of Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) legal director Azam Khan in the court.
The court issued notices to the FIA on the bail application of former religious minister Hamid Saeed Kazmi and joint secretary Aftab Sultan.
Following the larger bench, a three-member bench also headed by the chief Justice will resume the hearing of the NICL land scam case, which has consumed significant media attention due to the alleged involvement of several high-profile politicians.
The same bench will also take up the Nato containers smuggling case on Monday.
On Tuesday, the larger bench will hear the election matters and later a three-member bench will resume the hearing of the Bank of Punjab scam.
On the same day, the regular bench will also take up the suo motu case of the allotment of hundreds of National Police Foundation plots by MNA Anjum Aqeel to his nominees without any formal agreement.
