When foreigners care more

Letter February 23, 2020
Karachi is Pakistan’s the largest city consisting of the most educated citizens.

JOHI: A video went viral on social media in which the head coach of the Karachi Kings Mr Dean Jones is seen cleaning the dugout area after the match played between Karachi Kings and Peshawar Zalmi. His way of raising awareness made us realise how uncivilised we are?

Karachi is Pakistan’s the largest city consisting of the most educated citizens. Unfortunately the people who came to enjoy the PSL event forgot that it is their responsibility to keep their surroundings clean. It is sad to see that we are not ready to own up to our own home and that a guest was compelled to put thrown plastic bottles and wrappers in the dustbin. It has become a habit to throw wrappers and bottles in public spaces around the city. It is about time that all citizens own up to their responsibility as a stakeholder and help keep the country clean. It has become routine for people and industries to throw trash wherever they find fit. What happens because of this is that pockets of trash develop in different parts of the city due to which diseases develop and other complications develop. Dean Jones act should be a lesson to all citizens of Pakistan. It is sad to see a foreigner care more about Pakistan than the people themselves. If everyone takes responsibility rather than blaming the state, we will have be able to fulfill the idea of Pakistan that the founder M A Jinnah envisioned.
