FIR of Quetta blast registered

The entry and exit points of Quetta strictly being monitored

QUETTA: The First Information Report (FIR) of the suicide blast that occurred in the provincial capital on February 17 was registered against unknown attackers by the Counter Terrorism Department (CTD) on Tuesday.

At least eight people — two police personnel and a Levies Force man among them — were martyred and over 20 others injured in the suicide attack that took place near Quetta district courts and press club on Monday.

The FIR was registered under sections 302 (punishment for premeditated murder), 324 (attempted murder) of the Pakistan Penal Code and 7 of the Anti-Terrorism Act.

The funeral prayers of the martyred security personnel were offered and attended by government officials, IG Balochistan Police Mohsin Hassan Butt and family members and relatives of the deceased.

Meanwhile, a shutter down strike on the call of different political parties against the blast was observed in Quetta on Tuesday.

All shops and markets remained closed, while the flow of traffic remained thin throughout the day.

Security measures in and around the city had been tightened on the directives of Balochsitan Chief Minister Jam Kamal Khan with nearly 3,000 police personnel, FC personnel and Eagle Force deployed at various points.

The entry and exit points of Quetta were strictly being monitored with a thorough checking of the guest houses on the outskirts of the city.

The CM also directed the officials to submit a report for the improvement of security across the province.
