ISLAMABAD: At the end of a trying week for the mayor of the federal capital, in which he faced a probe from the Local Government Commission of the Interior Ministry over alleged irregularities and abuse of power, he got some support from his party on Sunday.

Representatives in the Islamabad Metropolitan Corporation (IMC), who were elected on a Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) ticket just like Mayor Sheikh Anser Aziz, have decided to repose their trust in him.

Elected members of the IMC from the PML-N on Sunday responded to the allegations levelled by the commission — which had been formed by the ruling Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf (PTI) and is chaired by a PTI MNA from the federal capital who used to sit on the opposition benches of the corporation’s council — terming it a conspiracy against the mayor.

The PML-N representatives, including deputy mayors, chairmen and other members discussed the charges brought by the commission against Aziz and asserted that all charges against the mayor will be proven false.

Addressing the IMC members, Aziz refuted all allegations and said that all accusations against him were not even close to reality.
