The mobile data and analytics platform revealed that seven out of every 10 minutes spent watching videos was on YouTube, despite China being unable to access the platform due to government blocks.

The reason for such popularity is multitudes of content available for people to watch in both long and short format videos.
The content is free and available to all users and those who desire to watch videos without ads can pay to remove them.

The report also suggests that the ability to stream music has also helped in creating this domination. From December 2017 through to December 2019 the YouTube Music platform saw immense growth, recently hitting 15 million subscribers.
The numbers are expected to grow, with the increasing popularity of streaming services and video platforms such as TikTok, Netflix and Byte.
Moreover, the report notes that advertisers are expected to spend $240 billion on mobile ads in 2020; an increase of 26% year over year, and YouTube is set to to be the top choice for mobile ad spend.
