Water scarcity

Letter February 13, 2020
Govt of Pakistan is unable to build a consensus between the four provinces to construct more dams.

WAH CANTT: Pakistan is facing a severe water crisis. Yet, in posh areas, offices and factories water is being wasted without realizing its importance. Moreover, the crisis is worsening by the day. Pakistan has already a low water storage capacity, and dams such as Mangla, Chahsma and Tarbela cannot hold water to their fullest potential due to siltation which causes salt and sand residue to gather at the bottom of the dams thus reducing their storage capacity. Unfortunately, the government of Pakistan is unable to build a consensus between the four provinces to construct more dams. We can only get rid of this self-created crisis if the federal government and governments of all the provinces take strong initiative regarding the issue.
