KARACHI: The paramedical staff at Abbasi Shaheed Hospital staged a protest on Wednesday, boycotting their work in different outpatient departments (OPDs) of the hospital.
Shouting slogans against the government, the hospital employees held a demonstration outside the hospital, demanding 20 per cent increase in their health allowance and 15 per cent increment in their salaries.
They claimed that despite high inflation rates over the last year, their salaries had not been raised. “We have already asked the management to address our genuine concerns, but no one listens,” said one of the paramedics, adding that they would launch a series of protests if their demands were not met.
Meanwhile, hundreds of clinic patients went unattended by the paramedical staff. The patients maintained that the hospital administration was responsible for the disturbance.
“We brought our daughter here for treatment but are taking her to another hospital as the hue and cry disturbed her. She is scared of the crowd,” said Muhammad Wasim, a visitor at the hospital. He added that several other patients had also left because they were not being attended to at the OPDs.
