Obesity in teenagers

Letter February 12, 2020
Eating is a habit and a lifestyle that all Pakistanis should focus on

ISLAMABAD: A majority of people in the country suffer from obesity, which in turn causes high blood pressure, high cholesterol levels, diabetes, laziness and other complicated diseases. These diseases are a result of unhealthy overeating and consumption of soft drinks. People should refrain from soft drinks at all costs as they are made mostly out of sugar. Our bodies cannot handle such high amounts of sugar and the internal organs are affected because of it.

As part of our culture, we are fond of hearty breakfasts comprising paratha, halwa poori and other oily delights. Similar meals, rich in calories, are repeated for lunch and dinner too. Our youth loves to eat junk food rather than clean and healthy home-cooked meals.

Eating is a habit and a lifestyle that all Pakistanis should focus on. It does not matter what you eat as long as you consume healthy. Physical activities should be pursued regularly. Our education system should also promote a healthy lifestyle as such habits need to be engrained from a small age.

A healthy lifestyle leads to a longer and happier life. The authorities should focus on making people aware of the consequences of obesity through properly planned nationwide campaigns.
