Former Balochistan chief minister Dr Abdul Malik Baloch has said that the federal and provincial governments should prioritise the inclusion of local communities of the province in the China Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) projects.
“Their interests and identities need to be protected through legislation for economic and social development,” he said, while addressing a stakeholders’ meeting in Gwadar.
Political activists, government officials, fishermen and business representatives participated in the meeting which was jointly organised by the Center for Research and Security Studies (CRSS) and Association for Integrated Development (AID).
Dr Baloch advocated for the greater lead role of the locals in running institutions such as the Gwadar Port and Gwadar Development Authority (GDA).
