I don't appreciate women wearing revealing clothes at award shows: Sangeeta

The veteran actor and director suggested celebrities should wear 'peshwas, dupattas' and 'churridars' instead

Lollywood veteran Sangeeta recently appeared on a talk show hosted by Ahsan Khan, where she was accompanied by Fariha Jabeen and her younger sister, Hina Rizvi.

The episode touched upon various topics but the actor's remarks on how female celebrities should dress up for award shows was a prominent tangent.

At the beginning of their conversation, Khan asked her what the secret behind her evergreen beauty was, to which the actor said, "Kisi se jalo mat, apne andar raho or har baat hans ke saho (Don't be jealous of anyone, mind your own business and tolerate everything happily)."

While introducing her to the audience, Ahsan revealed how Sangeeta is a sole parent who not only provided her daughters with good education by sending them to reputable schools but also got them married off into decent families.

The star then explained how she has been in the film industry since the age of 12, with Kangan being her debut. "I was the heroin of that film and I didn't know anything about the world. My parents brought me into the industry and it was nothing surprising then."

As the conversation proceeded, Sangeeta revealed the kind of director she is, adding that she resorted to physical violence with female actors who showed up late on the set while narrating a few incidents.

Khan then asked her whether it's necessary for female celebrities to dress up in a provocative manner to get roles or become known. To this, Sangeeta responded in the negative, suggesting that, "Acting should be the main concern to land any role."

She went on to say that during her time, there would be costume designers who would make outfits according to the role of the actor. "These days, however, everyone's outfits are made the same way. I specifically get annoyed when I see women at award shows, why do they copy Hollywood?" asked Sangeeta.

Sangeeta then added that celebrities should represent their culture in award shows through their dressing. "You should wear churidar pajamas with a long peshwas and dupatta."

The veteran went on to say that she does not like how women come to award shows wearing short dresses showing off their legs and backs.

"They come wearing short maxis with one leg popping out while showing off their backs. I don't appreciate women wearing revealing clothes at award shows, you're leaving your own culture to follow others... this is not the way to go," opined Sangeeta.

She also revealed her favourite female actors were Sajjal Ali, Ayeza Khan and Hira Mani.
