KARACHI: The Sindh Emergency Operation Centre (EOC) has confirmed two more polio cases- one reported from Badin district and the other from Kambar-Shahdadkot district.

According to EOC officials, a 36-month-old girl has contracted the virus in Badin, resulting in the weakening her left arm and left leg. Meanwhile, a 42-month-old girl also tested positive for polio in Kambar-Shahdadkot district. The virus has affected her right leg.

The confirmations have come at a time when a week-long anti-polio campaign is set to begin in Sindh from tomorrow (February 10). The campaign is aimed at vaccinating 2.3 million children under the age of five against the disease.

Earlier, EOC had attributed "a large pool of vulnerable children" at risk of contracting the virus in the province to long gaps in door-to-door vaccination campaigns last year. Following this, at least six million children were vaccinated in January this year.

Keeping in view the rise in polio cases, EOC has urged the parents to get their children vaccinated.
