Former chief minister Balochistan and chief of Sarawan Nawab Aslam Raisani will take part in the condolence ceremony to pay his tribute to Baloch who took journalism to new heights in the province and raised Balochistan’s issues throughout his career.
Born in an impoverished town of Lyari, Karachi on 10th February 1940, Baloch studied at a local government school and graduated from SM College, Karachi.
Following his passion, he commenced his journalistic career in 1962 after completing his Masters degree in Economics and thereby launched Balochistan’s first English newspaper in Quetta.
Later, he unveiled an Urdu newspaper, Daily Azadi, with an aim to highlight Balochistan’s political and economic turmoil, serving as the editor-in-chief for Daily Azadi and Daily Balochistan Express.
During his career, Baloch served as Press Secretary for Mir Ghaus Baksh Bizenjo and later sworn in as the president of Karachi Press Club and Karachi Union of Journalists along with being a member of SPNE.
Baloch remained active in province’s politics and joined National Awami Party (NAP) with Ghaus Baksh Bizenjo, Nawab Khair Baksh Marri and Sardar Attaullah Mengal.
Political incarnation during Zia’s regime didn’t stop his pen from conveying the issues of the people of Balochistan. The late journalist is also a writer of two books that dealt with socio-economic issues of Pakistan’s biggest province.
After rendering tremendous services for the profession and his province, Baloch breathed his last on 6th February in Karachi.
In his honour, the provincial government announced establishment of Siddique Baloch Media Academy in Balochistan.
