Police hunt for cops in ransom case

Complainant nominated two officials, while their four colleagues will be produced in court for remand

FAISALABAD: Hunt is underway for two policemen involved in a case of extorting Rs600,000 after threatening to kill an abducted citizen. The complainant of the case has nominated the two police officials, while four employees, including an arrested father and son, will be produced in court on Thursday for remand.

The arrested sub-inspector and police constable have surrendered their share of the ransom. A constable, Qasim, was acquitted.

According to police officials, Masood Ahmed alias Sauda, a resident of Gojra, was taken away from a place near the Iqbal Stadium by Sub-Inspector Naeem Adil, former SHO Mamoon Kanjan, Zeeshan Khalid, CIA Inspector Khalid Naeem Randhawa, Sub-Inspector Abbas Niazi, ASI Mohammad Afzal and Constable Zulqarnain.

The officials kept moving the victim on the roads in different areas of the city for eight hours after the abduction and threatened to kill him in an encounter, forcing him to pay Rs600,000 after demanding Rs1.5 million for his release.

The policemen arrested in the case, Zeeshan Khalid, Khalid Naeem Randhawa and Zulqarnain, will be presented in the court of Civil Judge Pervez Khan for further remand. Police officials said that several political figures and policemen had been approached for reconciliation in the case.

When The Express Tribune contacted the complainant, Masood Ahmed, he said false rumours about reconciliation were being spread.
