PESHAWAR: Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa (K-P) Governor Shah Farman on Tuesday directed to refer a case of fake degrees and other irregularities during recruitment at the University of Swabi (UoS) to the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) for a probe.

He issued these directions on Tuesday after reviewing an inquiry report prepared by a Joint Investigation Team (JIT) inquiry report regarding irregularities in appointments and an alleged fake degree case at the University of Swabi.

Chairing the seventh meeting of the varsity’s senate, Farman expressed displeasure over the report, noting that it does not identify the prime culprits because the only junior staff has been held responsible in it.

The report is biased and it has not identified the real people involved in the issue, he added.

The K-P governor said that illegal recruitments will not be tolerated at any cost and that they are committed to establishing a merit-based system in all the public sector universities.

Farman further directed the Higher Education Department of the province to forward the cases to the FIA for a detailed and conclusive investigation.

This is the first time that case of an alleged fake degree and other anomalies in appointments at a higher educational institution in the province has been referred to the FIA.
