RIUKT invites applications for hiring doctors, staff

Urology and kidney transplant facility may become partially functional by March

RAWALPINDI: The long-delayed project Rawalpindi Institute of Urology and Kidney Transplantation (RIUKT) is about to take off with the district administration to start hiring staff for the project.

A notification issued by the Rawalpindi Commissioner Muhammad Mahmood on Friday stated that the RIUKT will hire more than 300 doctors, paramedics and supporting staff to make the project functional.

Earlier, the provincial health department had asked the government hospitals in Rawalpindi to spare staff for the institute. After the government hospitals in the garrison city refused to spare staff for RIUKT, Commissioner Mahmood approved a move to recruit staff for the facility and make it partially operational by the end of March.

RIUKT Medical Superintendent (MS) Dr Khalid Randhawa has summoned applications for hiring 366 staffers in 35 different departments.

The deadline for submitting applications for different positions including doctors, medical officers, nurses, registrars and associate professors has been set as February 17.

Following this, the recruitment process will be completed by March 10, whereas the healthcare facility will become partially operational by the third week of the same month.

In the initial phase, two of the five floors of the hospital building, along with its Outpatient Department (OPD) will become operational.

Further, funds worth Rs3 billion have been released for the hospital whereas procurement of 70 per cent of the electro-medical equipment for RIUKT has also been completed.

Earlier this month, the Punjab government had released Rs400 million to procure machinery and other equipment for RIUKT. The provincial health ministry had released a further Rs200 million to make this long-delayed project functional by April.

The hospital seeking to be operational for nearly a decade would be made completely functional by March 2021, officials said.
