ISLAMABAD: Former prime minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi has finally decided to approach the Islamabad High Court Saturday (today) seeking his bail in the Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) import contract case.

It is learnt that the former PM has already given power of attorney to senior Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) lawyer Barrister Zafarullah to file a bail petition in the IHC. A PML-N leader has also confirmed that the bail petition has already been drafted, which is also approved from Abbasi.

Earlier, Abbasi was unwilling for any such decision. However, the party leaders convinced him to approach the high court for getting relief. The former PM has been in prison in the LNG import case since July last year.

Miftah Ismail and former Pakistan State Oil (PSO) managing director Imranul Haq, who were also implicated in the same case, were released by the court on bail last year.

The accountability court on January 21 extended the judicial remand of the former premier till Feb 4.
