Hit And Run: SC dismisses plea for murder case

The petitioner submitted that his father Muhammad Ikram was knocked down by an official vehicle carrying Javed Mehmood

LAHORE: A two member bench of the Supreme Court at Lahore on Thursday dismissed a petition filed by Azam Ikram, son of Colonel (R) Muhammad Ikram, seeking the registration of a murder case against former chief secretary Punjab Javed Mehmood. The petitioner had submitted that his father Muhammad Ikram was knocked down last year by an official vehicle carrying Javed Mehmood. He said that after hitting his father on Sarwar Road, the driver of the car carrying Mehmood drove away from the scene, leaving the injured man lying on the road. He contended that his father might have been saved had the chief secretary and his driver taken him to a nearby hospital. He said that while an FIR had been registered by the police against the driver, no action was taken against the chief secretary. Justice Jawad S Khwaja and Justice Asif Saeed Khan Khosa dismissed the petition on Thursday. They ordered early hearing of the case against the driver.
