IHC suspends accountability court’s order of auctioning Ishaq Dar’s house

Petitioner’s counsel pleaded that the house located in Lahore was given as a gift to his wife on February 14, 1989

ISLAMABAD: The Islamabad High Court (IHC) on Tuesday suspended accountability court’s order which directed the authorities concerned to auction former finance minister Ishaq Dar’s residence in Lahore.

A two-member bench presided by IHC Chief Justice Athar Minallah heard the petition filed by Dar’s wife, Tabassum Ishaq against the accountability court’s order.



The petitioner’s counsel pleaded that the house located in Gulberg, Lahore was given as a gift to his wife on February 14, 1989.

“The residence was confiscated by National Accountability Bureau (NAB) and was handed over to the Punjab Government for auction,” the counsel implored adding that AC dismissed Tabassum Ishaq’s plea against NAB’s actions on February 7, 2019.

IHC directed NAB to submit its response by February 13.



Earlier, the Punjab government advertised the auctioning of the house. The ad said that there would be an open auction on January 28, which would allow the highest bidder to take possession of the house. The district government has set a minimum price of Rs185 million.

Dar has been absconding court proceedings since 2017 following the registration of reference against him. Later, NAB confiscated his various bank accounts worth Rs500 million and his house, spread over four kanals and seven marlas.
