KARACHI:
Another case of H1N1 influenza, commonly known as the swine flu virus, has been confirmed in Karachi.

Unlike the previous cases, which were reported from patients in Clifton and Defence Housing Authority, the newest case was confirmed in a 33-year-old woman from Federal B Area. The patient is currently on a ventilator in critical condition, her family revealed to The Express Tribune.

Complaining of severe cough and high fever, the woman was admitted to a private hospital on January 10 after two other private hospitals refused her admission, saying that their isolation units were full.

After various diagnostic tests, doctors sent a nasal swab to Aga Khan University Hospital for screening for swine flu on January 23. On Friday, laboratory reports confirmed that the H1N1 Influenza A virus was present in her samples.

On January 5, a 35-year-old man died of the virus while receiving treatment at a private hospital in Clifton, health officials confirmed.
