Child abuse DNA tests

Letter January 28, 2020
The authorities concerned should pay heed to this catastrophe and must avail all the required facilities

SWABI: Child abuse again reared its ugly head in KPK which saw a slight pause after a case of rape and murder of a minor girl had occurred in district Mardan.

Normally, such cases become hot topics when a victim after being sexually assaulted is brutally killed. On such heart wrenching junctures, we see the stakeholders making tall promises of the legislation and actions of curbing this menace, but once the episode is over then the promises of law enacting and legislation are put into cold storage until another case of the same nature has appeared.

The game does not end at this point as this is more imperative to mention that with such cases umpteenth issues come to the forefront.

Few days ago, a minor girl named Huznoor of Nowshehra was killed. After the registration of the case by the victim’s family, the district Nowshehra police apprehended the accused who admitted to the murder of Huznoor, while he denied to the sexual intercourse with the deceased. Samples have been collected and sent to Lahore for DNA test. When such cases take place; the general public can be seen highly enraged.

One can just imagine what such impediments in reports of DNA can lead to? People descends on pointing fingers at the investigation of police which in real is not the problem on the part of law enforcing agency but the lacking of facilities in this province. There are laboratories in KPK but they are hailed to be not that authentic as.

The authorities concerned should pay heed to this catastrophe and must avail all the required facilities and services of experts so that the reports required to the police could be meted out and perfect investigation in such high-profile cases could be made sure. This will not only ease the investigation process of such serious crimes but will also prove a great contribution to the best interest of public and state.
