Notices issued over Faisal Vawda petition

Meanwhile, SHO's ex-wife claims he is illegally detaining their children

KARACHI: A local court issued on Saturday notices to the South Karachi SSP and Mithadar SHO over a plea seeking the registration of a case against Federal Water Resources Minister Faisal Vawda.

South district sessions judge was hearing the plea at Karachi City Court.

The petitioner, Pakistan People's Party (PPP) leader Qadir Khan Mandokhel, maintained that Vawda had used "non-parliamentarian" language when speaking about Senator Javed Abbasi in a television show on January 14, while also placing a shoe on the table.

Mandokhel added that baseless accusations had been levelled against the PPP for voting in favor of the extension of the Chief of Army Staff's service period. He further stated that Vawda had tried to claim that the army was backing political activities. Mandokhel claimed that the vote was given in favour of the extension under pressure from the opposition party, adding that Vawda had violated the Pakistan Electronic Media Regulatory Authority guidelines and disrespected the army.

Mandokhel urged the court to instruct the police to record Vawda's statement on the matter and register a case against him.

Upon hearing the arguments, the court issued notices to the South Karachi SSP and Mithadar SHO for January 28.

'Illegally detained' children

Separately, a local court issued a notice on Saturday to the Mehmoodabad SHO over a plea filed by his ex-wife against allegedly keeping their children in illegal detention.

The petitioner, Shazia, informed the court that two of her three children had been kept in illegal detention by her ex-husband, Aftab Ali Khan, who is the current Mehmoodabad SHO. She said that Khan divorced her in 2019 and was not letting her meet the children, who are aged four years and two years, respectively. Shazia pleaded the court to retrieve her children.

The bench issued
notices to Khan and ordered him to present the two children before the court on January 27.
