PESHAWAR: Pakistan International Airline (PIA) Peoples Unity Union Khyber Pakhtunkhwa president Syed Kamal was gunned down along with his guard by unidentified gunmen near Bara Gate in Peshawar on Thursday.

Express 24/7 correspondent Umar Farooq reported that Kamal was on his way home from work when unidentified gunmen intercepted his vehicle and started firing, targeting him and his guard Ayaz Khan.

Police officials cordoned off the area soon after the incident took place.

Sources at the airport indicated that Kamal had some personal enmity. Police have started investigating the incident, however the motive is yet to be ascertained.

Earlier a senior PPP activist Aamir Shah, who was also the president of an employees’ union body at the PIA head office in Karachi, was shot dead along with another PPP worker Mairaj Khalid Jagirani by unidentified gunmen in Gulistan-e-Jauhar last week.

Immediately after the incident, several neighbourhoods of the city erupted with gunfire with at least one passenger bus set ablaze in Gulshan-e-Iqbal.
