The bail plea was heard on Thursday by a single-member bench of the Islamabad High Court (IHC), comprising Justice Ghulam Azam Qambrani.
At the outset of the hearing on Thursday, Imran Abbasi said that his client, Najeeba Bibi, had complained that her stepson, Afzal, frequently assaults her at home. He asserted that as a result of the beatings, the victim had sustained serious injuries over her body many times.
Tired of the beatings, Abbasi said that Najeeba eventually raised the matter before a local jirga. But the effort was in vain. Terming the beating of a mother a cruel act, Abbasi demanded the court dismiss suspect’s plea for bail and issue orders to the Koral police to arrest him.
After hearing arguments from both sides, the court termed the practice as offensive and wicked. It also rejected the bail plea and ordered Afzal’s arrest. Afzal, though, fled.
