IHC hears PEIRA reply in private school fee case

ISLAMABAD: The Islamabad High Court (IHC) on Wednesday issued a summons for the joint secretary of the ministry of education in a case about the revision of fee structure at private schools as per the directions of the Supreme Court (SC).

A single-member bench of IHC, comprising Justice Aamer Farooq, heard the case on Wednesday.

At the outset of the hearing, the court asked representatives of the Private Educational Institutions Regulatory Authority (PEIRA) whether the process regarding the formulation of new rules is complete. To this, the PIERA which he replied that he would discuss it in the next hearing after consulting the education ministry.

Justice Farooq asked the counsel for private schools whether PEIRA can take measures to regulate fees. At this, PEIRA’s lawyer intervened and said that they had the powers to do so however a case against it was pending in an intra-court appeal.
