Pakistan urges UK to play its role in resolving Kashmir dispute

FM Qureshi briefs British foreign secretary on the evolving security situation of the region

Pakistan has urged the United Kingdom to play its role in the peaceful resolution of the Kashmir dispute, said a statement issued by Foreign Office (FO) on Wednesday.

In a telephonic conversation with British Foreign Secretary Dominic Raab, Foreign Minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi appraised his British counterpart on the grave human rights violations carried out by Indian security forces in occupied Kashmir.



According to the FO statement, the British foreign secretary was briefed on the evolving security situation of the region by FM Qureshi.

The foreign minister also shared Pakistan’s concerns with regard to the latest developments in the Persian Gulf region, which carried serious implications for the peace and security as well as world economy.

“The Foreign Minister emphasised on the importance of maximum restraint and steps for de-escalation by all sides. He also apprised of Pakistan’s efforts to defuse tensions in the region through active diplomatic engagement with relevant parties,” the FO spokesperson said.

Inviting to visit Pakistan at his earliest convenience, FM Qureshi briefed Foreign Secretary Raab on Pakistan’s efforts in the ongoing peace and reconciliation process in Afghanistan.



“British Foreign Secretary appreciated Pakistan’s efforts to support defusion of tensions and secure peace and security in the region,” FO statement said.  “He also highlighted the positive trajectory of Pak-UK relations and expressed hope that these will continue to strengthen in the years ahead.”

The two top diplomats also agreed to continue to work together to strengthen bilateral cooperation and to ensure peace and security of the region, the statement concluded.
