Better safe than sorry: Diagnosing Down’s Syndrome

KARACHI: Prenatal diagnosis of congenital disorders is possible with cytogenetic techniques but people are not aware of this technology, said Prof. Dr. Abid Azhar of the Dr AQ Khan Institute of Biotechnology and Genetic Engineering. The workshop revolves around the need to help people with the latest cytogenetic techniques that help quickly, accurately and cost effectively diagnose chromosomal disorders like infertility, Down’s Syndrome and Edward’s Syndrome. About 25 young researchers are taking part.
