KARACHI: ICI Pakistan Limited has approved the installation of two coal-fired boilers for its soda ash plant at Khewra with an investment of over Rs2 billion, ICI Chief Executive Waqar Malik said on Wednesday in a statement sent to the Karachi Stock Exchange (KSE). ICI’s stock value rose by 0.11 to close at Rs154.18 at the KSE during the trade session following the news. The investment is focused on addressing the energy deficit faced by the company due to the deteriorating supply of natural gas, affecting plant output and efficiencies. ICI plans to install boilers for steam generation based on state-of-the-art coal fired technology. The project, expected to be completed in 19 months, will have the capacity to produce 350,000 tons of soda ash annually.
