ISLAMABAD: A Senate panel on Monday was told that some 490 teachers working in different seminaries across the erstwhile federally administered tribal areas have not been paid since June 2019. The committee stressed the need to pay them by the end of the month.

This was stated as the Senate Standing Committee on States and Frontier Regions (SAFRON) met at the Parliament House on Monday with Senator Taj Muhammad Afridi in the chair.

During a briefing on the salaries and other regulations for employees, the committee was informed that some 490 teachers working in different madrassas of the Newly Merged Tribal Districts (NMTDs) have not been paid salaries since June because the finance department has not released funds for the purpose.

The committee directed the authorities to release the salaries of these employees by January 31. The SAFRON secretary assured the committee of compliance.
