The Sindh Home Department has issued a notification on the extension of police powers given to the Rangers.
The earlier deadline, which was extended on April 20, expired at midnight. The Rangers were given additional powers under Article 5 of the Anti-Terrorism Act to control violence in the city.
Apart from their power to conduct search and raid operations and arrange security check-posts in Karachi, the Rangers have the authority to engage, detain and interrogate suspects, before handing them over to the police.
