KARACHI: Amid an escalation of belligerent rhetoric by the military brass of Narendra Modi’s India, Prime Minister Imran Khan has warned the international community about the dangers of a nuclear-tipped country ruled by the “extremist ideology” of Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS).

“An extremist ideology RSS has taken over a nuclear-armed country of over a billion people,” the prime minister wrote in a tweet on Saturday while sharing an article in the London-based British daily newspaper, The Times.

“It [RSS] is an ideology based on racial superiority and hatred of Muslims and all minorities. Whenever this genie has come out of the bottle, it has always led to bloodshed,” Imran said further said in the tweet.

The Times’ article – headlined “India is a Hindu state now – we are second-class citizens” – talks about the predicament of the Muslim minority in India following the promulgation of the highly divisive and controversial Citizenship (Amendment) Act, 2019 which threatens to leave millions of Muslims without citizenship.

Critics say the law is part of the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) agenda to marginalise Muslims, who form 15% of the country’s population. It has sparked off massive protests across India which the Modi administration has failed to quell despite a brutal police crackdown.
