Time spent with elders

It’s worthwhile to spend an hour each week with someone older

RAWALPINDI: We live in a busy world. We look at things in terms of the bottom line. When it comes to our time we’re often thinking about how it will benefit us. And it usually leads to short-term thinking. We think that there might not be anything to learn from people that are older than us. But the knowledge I get from everyday experience is incredibly valuable in life. It’s worthwhile to spend an hour each week with someone older. In most cases elders like talking to the youth and give them advice on things that children are yet to experience so that they are better prepared in life. I imagine that they get something out of it too. While youngster benefit from talking to elders the opposite can also be the case. Talking to a younger person can help you rethink certain existing opinions. But for me and my grandpa I know that I’m coming out ahead. He might not even realise it, but the stories he shares and the life lessons he shares are helping me figure out how to live my life.

The great thing is that when you have a conversation with someone that is older than you usually you can find a common ground. The things you’re going through are things that they’ve gone through. And you can pick up on some life lessons that you can use to your advantage in life.
