KARACHI: The United Human Rights Commission has filed a constitutional petition against the statements made by senior minister Zulfiqar Mirza at the residence of Awami National Party’s Shahi Syed on July 14. People’s sentiments were hurt and over the course of the next 18 hours, sixteen people lost their lives and 40 vehicles were torched in reprisal. Why was an FIR not registered against him, asks the petitioner, saying that the government, both federal and provincial as well as interior and home ministers, failed to protect people’s lives and properties. The petition is fixed for a hearing before a bench on July 21.
