Where should the poor go

Letter January 08, 2020
The inflation has affected poor people the most

RAWALPINDI: Imran Khan’s government has imposed many taxes due to which inflation has risen and everything has become expensive. The inflation has affected poor people the most. Petrol price has also increased by a good amount due to which transportation fares have also increased .One of the major forms of transportation used by the masses is the metro bus service. Metro fares have also increased by a good amount which is causing many problems for the poor. According to the government, this initiative will increase the county’s development and generate revenues. But so far there has been no significant progress. In fact the poor segments have been badly affected by the hike in taxes. A large number of people due to high fares have reduced the use of metro service because of which the number of people that use the metro service have dropped significantly. Higher authorities should take initiative to control inflation through strategic planning. Where do they expect the poor to go? At the moment the price of anything can shoot up and the poor are not able to afford basic food. A few months ago, the price of tomatoes reached around Rs300 which is insanely expensive. Most of the poor survive by buying a day’s worth of grocery because they cannot afford to buy in bulk. This is no way to live. The government should care about what is happening on the ground instead of telling the people to endure through it because it is much easier for the rich who can still afford all their luxuries while the poor starve. The increasing inflation is making life of the common man very difficult day by day.
