HARIPUR:

A recently-married woman was allegedly kidnapped by her father and brothers from Sarai Saleh on Tuesday, police said.

Her husband, Abdul Khaliq said that her father forcibly entered his house along with her brothers and took her at gunpoint.

He feared her family might kill her in the name of honour as the couple had solemnised their marriage in a court against her family’s consent a month ago.

He added that her parents accused her of “stigmatising the family honour” since Khaliq is already married with grown-up children.

A police party, on being informed, arrived in time to intercept them; but they fired upon the police van and escaped from the scene. No casualties or injuries were reported.
