QUETTA: Quetta Police Deputy Inspector General Abdul Razzaq Cheema said the police have busted a gang of kidnappers and recovered 11-year-old Waleed safely from their custody.

Addressing a press conference at Capital City Police Office (CCPO) on Monday, the DIG said that Waleed was kidnapped on January 2 at 6:30 pm from Ghafoor town in Ghousabad.

“The kidnappers contacted the family of Waleed through WhatsApp - a messenger application - and demanded a ransom of Rs10 million,” Cheema said.

The DIG took notice of the situation and constituted two teams in search of the abducted child. One team was led by the senior superintendent of police (SSP) and the second team was headed by SSP investigations.

“During the raid, the police have confiscated pistols and mobiles from the kidnappers,” said the DIG.

However, Waleed had been safely taken into police custody, claimed Cheema.
