US-Iran relations

There should be an emergency meeting of the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation to discuss US threats to Iran

KARACHI: The reckless killing of Iran’s top brass General Qasem Soleimani took us all by surprise. He was the Commander of Iran’s Quds force, which is operating exterior to Iran to strengthen its foreign relations and fight the West-backed forces opposed to Iran. The West is playing up one Muslim country against anther. The US has oppressed several Muslim states, in the guise of fighting against its own backed terrorists.

Qasem Soleimani has been countering extremist forces. Iran and the US have been foes for the past several decades since the 1979 Islamic revolution.

Unity in the Muslim world is need of the hour. Mahathir Mohamad deserves to be commended for his endeavours to unite the Muslim world. They must stop bickering among themselves, and focus on threats from the West to Muslims in Kashmir; Afghanistan, Palestine, Sudan, Syria, Iraq. Trump has mentioned 52 points which the US will attack Iran in retaliation. There should be an emergency meeting of the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation to discuss US threats to Iran and take the issue to the negotiating table.
