RAWALPINDI: The Development Authority (RDA) and revenue department on Sunday sealed the Walayat Complex, a plaza owned by the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) Senator Chaudhary Tanveer.

The revenue department along with RDA officials in a joint operation sealed various plazas and marquees of the Walayat Complex.

District Commissioner Saifullah Dogar, Saddar assistant commissioner and Rawalpindi Additional Deputy Commissioner Revenue (ADCR) supervised the operation during which a wall of the Senator Tanveer’s house was also demolished.

The PML-N leader Senator Tanveer said the district administration took action on holiday without any prior notice, which was an ample proof of the fact that it was political victimisation.

Senator Tanveer’s son Chaudhry Danial told The Express Tribune that there were 400 houses in the locality, but the administration targeted their home to harass them. This land was in private ownership for over a 100 years, he said. “Even if there are some issues, the district administration should have sent a notice at least 14 days ago,” he said.

Danial said running a bulldozer over someone’s home was a sheer political victimisation. Meanwhile, he and his brother Changaiz have been booked for provoking people to throw stones at government officers busy in demolishing the alleged illegal structures.

Separately, a statement issued by the Rawalpindi district administration said that a demarcation was carried out for khasra number 2479/1 measuring 110 kanals which was state land and public thoroughfare.

The demarcation proved that part of the Walayat Complex and house of Senator Tanveer has been illegally built on this state land, the statement said. Therefore the top officials instructed the revenue department and RDA to conduct a joint operation against the illegal occupants.

The statement said that Tanveer had built this complex and house on 120 kanals during the PML-N government.
