LAHORE: The Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) has abolished the contractor system and reduced the charges of hand-carry and other import items for passengers and the business community.

It has been decided to end the additional 10% amount which was charged by the contractors. Now the charges will apply according to the quantity of the goods.

Earlier, the traders and passengers had to pay additional 10% charges to the contractors for goods booked on the same day.

But now rates have been fixed for carrying goods the same day or during any day of the week.

The CAA will charge Rs75 per kilogramme for carrying goods during daytime and Rs150 per kilogram during night, while for booking open luggage of hand carry, Rs5 per kilogram will be charged.

The aviation authority will charge Rs200/kg for import of live birds, Rs200/kg for small animals and Rs200/kg for dogs and other dangerous animals, Rs35/kg for imported pan packing and Rs10/kg for open luggage.
