While emphasising on the importance of the day when the United Nations made a commitment for holding of a plebiscite under its auspices on January 5, 1949, Dastagir underscored New Delhi’s illegal and unilateral decision of August 5, 2019 and unrestrained oppression, reaching unprecedented levels with the inhuman lockdown continuing for nearly five months.
“Regrettably, this right had not yet been realised because of unabated repression and state terrorism by India in IOK”, he added.
Special messages of Pakistan's president, prime minister and foreign minister on the day were also read out in the ceremony, which was attended by a large number of Kashmiris and Pakistanis.
At the end of the function, special prayers were offered for Kashmiri martyrs and an early resolution of the Kashmir issue in accordance with the UN resolutions.
