27,135 suspects arrested in 2019

The report reveals that 11,163 raids were carried out in Sindh against the drug mafia

KARACHI: The Sindh Police claimed that they arrested over 27,000 suspects while taking action against drugs and chewable tobacco manufacturers in 2019.

According to Sindh Police spokespersons, 27,135 suspects were arrested during more than 11,429 raids across the province. Moreover, as many as 22,066 cases were registered against the arrested suspects.

According to the progress report for 2019, presented before Sindh IGP Dr Syed Kaleem Imam, 10,161 FIRs were lodged against the manufacturers of gutka, mawa and mainpuri in all police ranges of the province.

85.5kg narcotics seized in December

The report further stated that 211 factories were sealed during the year, while more than 4,331 tonnes of gutka, mainpuri and other chewing tobacco were seized from the possession of 11,995 arrested suspects.

Furthermore, the report revealed that 11,163 raids were carried out in Sindh against the drug mafia and 11,905 FIRs were lodged against them. At least 14,618 suspects were arrested and 47 kg of Ice, 89.289 kg of Heroin, 7.7 tonnes of hashish, 177.60 kg of opium and 306,694 litres of imported liquor was seized in 2019.
