GILGIT: Gilgit-Baltistan’s civil administration warned on Saturday to observe a strike against ‘highhandedness’ of a police officer on a local government official.
An assistant superintendent (ASP) allegedly kept a tehsildar in lock up for hours in Chilas town of Diamer district.
In a resolution passed by officials following an emergency meeting, the civil administration demanded the registration of an FIR against the ASP, as well as his expulsion from the region. “We will go on strike if our demands are not met by Monday,” the resolution read.
ASP Chilas Kamran Amir Khan detained the tehsildar after a disagreement over land demarcated for DIG House.
Sources privy to the development told The Express Tribune that ASP wanted the tehsildar to encroach upon the land belonging to the health department which the latter refused. This infuriated the police officer who asked his station chief to detain the land officer.
