Darakhshan Police registered the FIR on the complaint of Hasnain Haider, a 19-year-old student, against Taimur Akhtar, son of the Karachi mayor.
In the FIR, the complainant claimed that he and his friends were present at a petrol pump in Phase 8 of the Defence Housing Authority (DHA) around 10pm on December 31 when two luxury vehicles pulled up.
The occupants, who had private security escort, fired gunshots into the air, according to the complainant.

“When they were asked to stop firing, they beat me up and even threatened to kill me,” he said in the FIR.
“Meanwhile, Taimur Akhtar also got off the vehicle and hit me with a pistol butt while his security guards also tortured me and damaged my vehicle,” Hasnain alleged in his complaint.
He immediately drove to Darakhshan Police Station to register the case where he was asked to have his medical examination done first.
He had his medical checkup for a wound he had sustained during the alleged torture at Jinnah hospital.
The complainant claimed that the police were first reluctant to register the case, but then they lodged the FIR.
