‘Model police stations providing people relief’

IGP says new initiatives will protect properties, lives of citizens

LAHORE: The Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI)-led government, following the bid of its predecessors, has established model police stations titled ‘Special Initiatives of Police Stations’ (SIPS) in the province.

Prime Minister Imran Khan will inaugurate the city police station, Mianwali, modern technology and smart ideas based model police station established under (SIPS) on Saturday.

In this regard, Punjab Inspector General of Police (IGP) Shoaib Dastagir chaired a high level meeting at Central Police Office (CPO), Lahore on Friday.

Additional IG Logistics Ghulam Rasul Zahid, DIG Logistics Faisal Ali Rana, DIG IT Ghulam Mehmood Dogar, AIG Operations Imran Kishwar, AIG Development Hassan Iqbal and other senior police officers were present on the occasion.

SIPS is an initiative to provide citizens quick relief, change ‘thana culture’ and maintain trust level between the public and police.

Police to spend millions on renovation work

The IGP, while speaking on the occasion, said that in the police department, the police station has a fundamental position and steps would be taken to improve the working of police stations.

He added that with the launch of special initiatives, the smart policing system would protect the properties and lives of the people. ‘Law-abiding citizens would not be afraid of visiting the police stations.”

He highlighted that 50 police stations were being upgraded as model police stations in different districts.

During the meeting, the IGP also reviewed special initiative model police stations of different districts via video link whereas the preparations for the arrival of the PM to Mianwali and inauguration ceremony of special initiative police stations project were also examined.

AIG Development Hassan Iqbal, while briefing on model police stations, said that in the first phase, 29 police stations, including Mianwali district, have been upgraded to special initiative police stations.

The basic objective of this project is to ensure the easy and quick provision of facilities to the citizens, he maintained.
