Van Dijk helps Liverpool beat club record during 2-0 win over Sheffield United

Centre-back completes 131 passes in team's record total of 969

Liverpool are soaring high on the Premier League points table as they were able to maintain a 13-point gap against second-placed Leicester City with a 2-0 win over Sheffield United on Thursday.

Jurgen Klopp's men now have 58 point from 20 games and are unbeaten in the 2019-2020 season till now.

In the ongoing season, they have bagged 19 wins out of the 20 matches played with only one draw.

While doing all of it, Liverpool managed to break the club record of most passes completed in the 90 minutes with 969 passes completed against Sheffield at a rate of 90.1 per cent.

Liverpool enjoyed 74.8 per cent of the possession against Chris Wilder-managed side, but even with such a dominant performance, they were unable to beat the Premier League record of 1,015 completed passes currently held by Manchester United.

Reds' centre-back Virgil van Dijk lead the passes count with 131 completed passes, while John Egan was the most successful passer for Sheffield with only 32 completed passes.

After Mo Salah and Sadio Mane's goals guided Liverpool past the Sheffield hurdle, now Klopp and co face Everton in the FA Cup on Sunday.

With Premier League title nearly covered and without any doubt in their own hands to lose, Liverpool are now eyeing domestic trophies and the defense of their Champions League title.
